Sixteen Going on Forever is an exploration of my identity, growing up as an Indian-American, about the friendships and family I cherish, and about my first stab at independence at 15, on the brink of my 16th birthday. It is an experimental short with a narrative strung together through a continuous voiceover of a dream I had when I was seven years old, serving as a bedrock for how I see my past, current, and future life. Utilizing footage from my own life, found footage and music from the internet, and voice memos from my friends and family, I hope to tell the story that my life isn’t just my own, but rather, a collection of all the experiences, conversations, memories, and feelings I’ve had thus far. YoungArts 2024 winner in experimental film.
After losing my dad’s tie on a night out, I faced a series of emotional confrontations, which made me ponder on my relationship with my father and realize that no guy I meet on a night out is going to care for me as my father does. 'Confessions of a College Girl' is an exploration of self and a collage of home and new. It’s about growing up and realizing who your parents really are.
In my future, I want to create Indian-American characters and stories on screen that feel like best friends to Indian-Americans all over the world. I hope to represent stories of truth and authenticity, similar to Confessions of a College Girl.
At 17 years old, Miles Shrewsbury heard the sound of the tabla for the first time. Since then, the rich world of classical Indian drumming shaped the trajectory of both his professional and personal life. After many years studying under his gurus in India, learning Hindi, and immersing himself in the culture, this is the story of how Miles became a guru himself. Connecting Indian American kids to their culture through music, this is a documentary called Tabla. Made through my cinema conservatory at my high school.
Shreya has always been second best to Jenny. At the tale end of their senior year, things have started to change. You're Like Me But Pretty is a narrative short that explores young love, self-identity, and social media in the 21st century. A film very close to my heart, You're Like Me But Pretty included a crew of close friends and classmates, and stars me, and my best friends. It was a joy to make this film, and one of my personal favorites.
